In this session, Daniel Livermore looks at the phenomenon of Islamic Fundamentalism and assesses how best to deal with this issue as a foreign policy issue. He will then look at the extremist variations of Islamic Fundamentalism, and examine some of the Canadian cases that have made headlines since the events of 9/11. He will look at the US War on Terror as a reaction gone wrong, a case of using the wrong tools against the wrong adversary. The presentation will be an attempt to blend the requirements of foreign policy with the needs of domestic policy, while asking a fundamental question: why did the War on Terror go so horribly wrong?
