COURSE – TWENTIETH CENTURY ART AND WHY IT HAS VALUE – 06.1

October 21, 2021 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

$20

The 20th signalled a radical departure from art as image and representation to art as abstraction and conceptualization. Our workshop will display and analyze pivotal pieces by Marcel Duchamps, Kazimir Malevich, El Lissitzky and Picasso. We will begin by examining their early work within the framework of the Austrian School of subjective value theory and conclude with the appropriation art of Richard Prince and Andy Warhol, possibly touching on the recent NFT art of Damien Hirst’s “Currency,” should time permit. Be prepared for dazzling images, high prices and copious context.
